Oscars 2016: Prediction for Best PictureFeb 28(AZINS) There are a total of 24 categories in which the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will pick the winners on the night of February 28 in the US. Barring one, all other categories are meant to award individuals with a specific skill set. But when it comes to Best Picture, the Academy acknowledges the collective effort every single person involved with the movie. Right from the studio which put money in the vision of the writer and director to the grips.

This year's Best Picture category comprises of 8 movies and the competition is quite clear.

It will be a tough call between Spotlight and The Revenant. Both have been winning one or the other award leading ultimately to the golden statue waiting for them at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles.

Spotlight is based on a true investigation done by The Boston Globe on widespread, systemic child abuse by Roman Catholic priests in the Archdiocese of Boston. The movie has a minimalistic approach. It's all about the facts and their implication on personal lives of these investigative journalists. This indie movie could be a potential spoiler for The Revenant.

Alejandro G Iñárritu's movie is a revenge drama based on a novel by Michael Punke, which in turn is inspired by the life of explorer and fur trapper Hugh Glass. Everyone is raving about Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in the movie. Add Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography and colour it with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto's music. There is no place to find a flaw!

Here are other nominees in the category -

The Big Short – Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner

Bridge of Spies – Steven Spielberg, Marc Platt, and Kristie Macosko Krieger
