Bharat Bandh: Bihar official says 2-year-old's death was not due to blockage of roads

Sep 10 (AZINS) The father of the two-year-old girl who died in Bihar's Jehanabad reportedly told the police that the ambulance wasn't halted due to the Bharat Bandh.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Alok Ranjan Ghosh, the DM of Jehanabad said that the father told the police that his daughter was critical since last night and died en route to hospital.  "There is no direct correlation with Bharat Bandh but generally, during a Bandh, frequency of vehicles is less. This may have caused little inconvenience. But even the family of the deceased said that ambulance wasn't stopped due to Bharat Bandh," he added.

Interestingly, earlier reports said that girl's parents said that if they were allowed to go ahead, their daughter would be alive and treated on time. But SDO Jehanabad Paritosh Kumar said that the relatives of the diseased had left home late and the death is not related to Bandh or traffic jam.

The Congress party and allies have called for a nationwide shut down on Monday to protest rising fuel prices in the country. As per the recent reports, Bihar is one of the worst affected states as the protest has resulted in unrest in several part of the State.

In Bihar, the bandh was supported by RJD, NCP, Samajwadi Party, Left Front, SP and HAM(S). The bandh will be observed between 9 am to 3 pm during which leaders and workers from opposition parties would hit the streets requesting people to cooperate and support the bandh, senior Bihar Congress leader and MLC Prem Chandra Mishra said Sunday.
