Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is described in the scriptures as the most merciful incarnation of Lord Krishna, who descended in the world in the year 1486 in Sri Mayapur Dham, West Bengal, India. He appeared as the devotee of Krishna in the mood of Radharani to teach the art of loving devotional service (Bhakti yoga) through the congregational chanting of the holy names. He established chanting of the holy names as the most effective means by which one can achieve spiritual perfection. This is considered to be one of the most auspicious days in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.
