Google employees come up with female emojis to promote gender equalityMumbai, May 11(AZINS) Four employees at Google have created 13 new illustrative representations of women in a workplace and presented them to the Unicode consortium with the intention to promote gender equality among people. The arrangement of proposed themed cartoons includes women engineers, chemists, plumbers and farmers.

The Google staff members showcased their idea on Tuesday to Unicode Consortium, a non-profit organization that coordinates the development of emojis.

“No matter where you look, women are gaining visibility and recognition as never before,” said the four Google employees -- Rachel Been, Nicole Bleuel, Agustin Fonts, Mark Davis -- in their proposal.

“Isn’t it time that emojis also reflect the reality that women play a key role in every walk of life and in every profession?” added the Google workers.

According to a report, emojis are used by 92 percent of online users. 78 percent of women are frequent users while only 60 percent of men are frequent users of emojis.

Currently, the list consists of women in jobs that include business, healthcare, science, education, technology, industry, farming, food service, education and music.
