Alec Baldwin to play Bruce Wayne's father in Martin Scorsese's 'Joker'Aug 28 (AZINS) Alec Baldwin has joined Joker with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead.

The 60-year-old actor will play the role of Bruce Wayne/ Batman's father, Thomas Wayne in the origin story of one of DC's most iconic antagonists.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say the script portrays Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mould of a 1980s Donald Trump.

To be directed by Todd Phillips, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in a fortnight in New York City.

It is reported that the story would be based on The Joker's rise to power in the 1980s and would be set in a gritty atmosphere rather than its original comic book feel. It will reportedly follow a Killing The Joke-esque story arc.

The film could be the first to be released under a new banner rumoured to be titled either DC Black or DC Dark label

Phillips co-wrote the script with Scott Silver.

Also starring Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy, Warner Bros has set October 4, 2019 as release date.

Another Joker solo film is in works at Warner Bros. Starring Jared Leto this feature film will be set in the Suicide Squad universe. This is different from the version produced by Martin Scorsese.
