Man orders Apple iPhone 12 worth Rs 70,900 from Amazon, receives dishwashing soap, Rs 5 coin instead

A customer was in for a major shock when he ordered an Apple iPhone 12 via Amazon and what arrived in the package was a dishwashing soap and a Rs 5 coin instead.

Noorul Ameen, a resident of Aluva, a suburb of the city of Kochi in Kerala, was patiently waiting for his iPhone, on which he spent tens of thousands of rupees, but what he received instead was a soap worth a few rupees and a Rs 5 coin.

As soon as the story was shared by Noorul on social media, it went viral. A picture is also circulating on social media sites in which a green-coloured Vim dish wash soap and a Rs 5 coin can be seen instead of an iPhone.

Noorul had ordered his phone on Amazon which retails for Rs 70,900. On receiving his package and finding a soap bar instead, the NRI swiftly filed a complaint with the police and received a refund of the hefty amount.

The complaint states that Noorul placed the order on October 12 through his Amazon Pay Card and received the package on October 15. He had also made an unboxing video of the same but was shocked to find out what was inside.

Immediately after Noorul filed a complaint, a case was registered at the Cyber Police Station. According to a report in India Today, the phone that Noorul had ordered was already being used by someone in Jharkhand since September 2021.

Speaking about the case, an officer was quoted as saying, "We contacted the Amazon authorities and the Telangana-based seller. The phone has been in use in Jharkhand since September 25 this year, even though the order was placed only in October. When we contacted the seller, he said the phone was out of stock and that the amount paid by Noorul would be returned."
