'Conspiracy to stop Dalits from advancing in economic front': Mayawati on IT attaching brother's 'benami' property

July 19 (AZINS) A day after her brother's property got attached by Income Tax department,  BSP Supremo Mayawati on Friday slammed Centre for this step. She said that it is a conspiracy to stop Dalits from advancement in the economic front. The attached land is estimated to be worth around Rs 400 crore.

Mayawati tried to put the ball in BJP's court saying they should check how much their wealth has increased post coming to politics. BSP Supremo said, "BJP should look at themselves, if they think they are very honest then they should investigate how much wealth they & their family had before coming into politics & how much it is now. So everything becomes clear before the country."

She further remarked, "BJP & RSS are casteists. They don't want to see development of Dalits and other backward classes in education, business or any other field. They are using various ways to create problems for this but our party is working for development of these people.". Mayawati remarked, "When members of their party or anyone related with them become wealthy overnight they consider it justified against us,however if someone from our community do well they have problems with it. It is then when they misuse govt machinery against us, which is condemnable".

BSP supremo said that a message is being put across to Dalits that if Mayawati's brother can be targeted, no one is safe. She vowed to stay with the Dalit community and sense that no one can stop her from supporting them. She also warned Modi and Amit Shah that she is not going to get cowed down. BSP chief also claimed that corporatisation of Railways will lead to Dalits getting less job there, hence it is a conspiracy against the community.

The Income Tax department on Thursday attached 'benami' plot of land belonging to the former Uttar Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar and his wife.

The action has been taken by the I-T Department under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transaction Act. The attached plot is 2A, Sector 94, Noida and is situated in the vicinity of a proposed five star hotel and other luxury projects.

Mayawati's brother Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata allegedly used six companies for dubious transactions to acquire the tainted plot, agency sources said.Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati recently appointed Kumar as the national vice- president of the party. The six companies used for the transactions include Vision Town Planners Pvt Ltd, BPTP International Trade Center Pvt Ltd, Euro Asia Mercantile Pvt Ltd, Sunny Cast and Forge Pvt Ltd, Karishma industries Pvt Ltd and Add-Fin Capital Services India Pvt. Ltd, sources said.

The I-T Department's provisional order for the attachment of the plot ?eneficially owned" by Kumar and his wife was issued on July 16. Benami properties are those in which the real beneficiary is not the one in whose name the property is registered.
