Sreerampur Lok Sabha election results 2019 West Bengal: TMC's Kalyan Banerjee wins by 98 thousand votes

May 23 (AZINS) Sreerampore Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal polled on 6th May during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election. 

Here is a look at how candidates fared:

Kalyan Banerjee won by 98536 votes over BJP's Debajit Sarkar who came second. 

Sreerampore Lok Sabha constituency profile: 

Sreerampore Lok Sabha constituency located in Hooghly and Howrah districts of West Bengal is one of the high-profile seats in the state. Its MP is top TMC leader and party's legal face Kalyan Banerjee. Kalyan Banerjee who is a two-time MP from Sreerampore is up against Tirthankar Roy of CPM, Debajit Sarkar of BJP and Debabrata Biswas of Congress. In the last election, Kayan won against CPIM's Tirthankar by a margin of 1.52 lakh votes. BJP's Bappi Lahiri came third. This time, Kalyan Banerjee is looking to increase the target and has used tollywood stars to campaign here. Mamata Banerjee has also campaigned extensively for him touting the several state government develop projects as proof of what TMC has done for Sreerampur. 

Historically, since 1996 Sreerampur has always voted anti-Left except in 2004, when TMC had a shocker election winning just one seat across the state. Akbar Ali Khondkar of TMC won the seat twice after inception of the party in 1998 and 1999 LS poll. In all, CPI(M) have won the seat six-times, TMC on four occasions and  Congress have emerged victorious four times. The assembly segments under Sreerampur are Jagatballavpur, Domjur, Uttarpara, Sreerampur, Champdani, Chanditala and Jangipara. Sreerampur polled on May 6. 

Elections for 42 seats in West Bengal are taking place in seven phases. In 2014, TMC got 34, Congress 4 and BJP and CPI(M) won two seats each in the state.
