Dismissed BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav's nomination as SP candidate from Varanasi rejected

May 1 (AZINS) Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha candidate and former BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav's nomination for contesting from Varanasi has been rejected by Election Commission. Reacting to the development, Tej Bahadur said, "My nomination has been rejected wrongly. I was asked to produce the evidence at 6.15pm yesterday, we produced the evidence, still my nomination was rejected. We will go to the Supreme Court".

Tej Bahadur was slated to contest against PM Narendra Modi of BJP and Ajay Rai of Congress. The former BSP jawan's lawyer Rajesh Gupta said that they will go to Supreme Court to challenge this decision.

DM Varanasi explaining the reason behind Tej Bhadur's nomination getting cancelled said,"A person who has been dismissed from service from state or central govt within last 5 yrs has to obtain a certificate from EC stating he/she hasn't been dismissed due to disloyalty or corruption. The certificate wasn't produced before 11am, so, the nomination was rejected".

Initially, while filing nomination as independenet Tej Bahadur had mentioned about him getting dismissed from BSF. But that information was not given while filing nomination as SP candidate.

Earlier on Tuesday, district election officer had served him notices pointing at "discrepancies" in the two nominations filed by him.

"I had filed my first nomination as an Independent candidate on April 24 and on SP party symbol on April 29.If there were any issues with the nominations, why wasn't I informed earlier.Despite lack of time, our legal team is furnishing all details to the RO (returning officer)," Tej Bahadur was quoted as saying. Tej Bahadur had made headlines after his video about poor quality of food provided to soldiers went viral on social media.

Tej Bahadur had alleged that BJP was putting roadblocks in his nomination as they are wary of a real chowkidar fighting a  'fake chowkidar' in an oblique reference to PM Modi.
