Beto O'Rourke confirms he is running for US president

Mar 14 (AZINS) Beto O'Rourke has announced his bid for next year's US presidential election, CNN reported on Thursday. The former Texas congressman who rose to national fame during his failed senate bid against Ted Cruz, will join a crowded field of candidates seeking the Democratic Party nomination.

According to the report, Beto O'Rourke was heading to Iowa on Thursday to drum up support for his bid.  He also said that he will hold a kick-off rally for his campaign in El Paso, Texas, on March 30. In his announcement video, O'Rourke said he would run a "positive campaign that seeks to bring out the very best from every single one of us, that seeks to unite a very divided country."

"This is a defining moment of truth for this country and for every single one of us," Beto O'Rourke said the video.  "The challenges that we face right now, the interconnected crises in our economy, our democracy and our climate have never been greater," he added.
