Diana Edulji's thinking has got 'fossil': Babul Supriyo asks for some prudence in Hardik-Rahul case

Jan 13 (AZINS) Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have faced a lot of backlashes since they appeared on the celebrity talk show. The two have even been suspended from the on-going India-Australia ODI series and could possibly be banned from the 2019 World Cup.

Union Minister, Babul Supriyo has however shared his opinion on the matter. The politician wrote, “With due & utter respect to Diana Edulji & her contribution to Indian cricket, May I say that her thinking has got ‘fossil’ to contemplate such extreme steps•What Hardik said is deplorable but, there has to be some prudence in the way such senior minds handle the young ones.”

The second tweet read, “2/2: There is a ‘Thick’ line between reprimanding someone and destroying them !! My plea to these seniors: please behave your ages, gentlemen & ladies... Rest my case ?@hardikpandya7? ?@klrahul11? ?@BCCI? #CoffeeWithKaran #Seniors&Prudence #GuidanceWithoutCruelty."

Many people do feel that the punishment of banning the cricketers is a little too harsh. While people are questioning as to why KL Rahul has been given the suspension, some even support Hardik Pandya and say that there could be many other ways to punish the duo.

Many are even criticising the double standards in the fraternity as BCCI CEO Rahul Johri who is involved in a sexual harassment case has been given a clean chit.

The members of the group comprised of former president N Srinivasan's loyalists such as Anirudh Chaudhary and Niranjan Shah, besides representatives of 14 state units met "to discuss and deliberate upon the state of affairs of the BCCI and expressed grave concern over the same".

Taking note of the suspension slapped on Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul for their loose talk on women in a TV show, they said in a statement, "The members expressed shock at the double standards on display in dealing with issues related to players where show cause notices have been issued and the players have been suspended pending inquiry."

"... And in dealing with issues relating to the CEO who was not even suspended and in whose case the inquiry procedure adopted was arbitrary and in violation of the BCCI's constitution and in the absence of any decision from the CoA as a committee."

A look at how people reacted to the suspension.

On Saturday, CoA member Diana Edulji had objected to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri doing the preliminary inquiry in the matter as there are sexual allegations levied on him. Edulji wrote in a letter, “In view of the grave sexual allegations levied on the CEO, it wouldn’t be justified if he conducts the inquiry. Its bad optics and the CoA will be criticized for it”.
