IPL 2019: Tournament to be held in India despite elections, confirms BCCI

Jan 8 (AZINS) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 will be held in India from 23 March. The general elections are expected to be held in April and May. It is also the month when the 50-overs World Cup gets underway in England.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) announced the decision saying, “Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world's most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India. It is proposed that the VIVO IPL 2019 will commence on March 23, 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities”.

The final decision on the venues and window will be taken after preliminary discussions.
