Fake degree row: ABVP clears the air; says Ankiv Baisoya has been suspended, not expelled

Nov 15 (AZINS) The Akhil Bharatiya Vidharthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday clarified a statement hat DUSU student body President Ankiv Baisoya, who had been told to resign from his post, had been suspended from the oranisation, and not expelled, as it had been mentioned earlier.

Baisoya was asekd to resign after a fake degree row that the ABVP's rival, the National Student Union of India (NSUI) had alleged after the ABVP won the student union elections at Delhi University.

In September this year, the NSUI which recently lost DUSU polls to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) alleged Basoya has submitted fake documents to get admission into Delhi University. The RSS-affiliate, however, has refuted the allegations, saying Basoya was given admission after due verification of the documents by the university.

The Congress-backed NSUI released a letter from Thiruvalluvar University, which it said was received in response to a communication from the student body. The letter stated that the BA certificate from the university submitted by Basoya, was fake.

The Delhi High Court on Monday gave DU time till November 20 to verify authenticity of DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya's bachelors degree from a university in Tamil Nadu.

Justice C Hari Shankar granted more time to Delhi University (DU) to carry out the verification on the varsity's request.

The court on October 30 had granted DU time till Monday to carry out the verification and inform it as the two-month period within which re-election could be held would expire on November 13.
