Mohun Bagan president's blatant sexism to celebrate victory will shock you

Sep 13 (AZINS) After being eluded of the Calcutta Football League’s title in the last seven years, they finally clinched a superb victory in the final by beating Calcutta Customs 2-0 on Wednesday.

By winning the local title for the first time since 2010, they ended arch-rivals East Bengal’s reign at the top.

During the half-time program on Sadhna News, the presenter asked Mohun Bagan’s president Swapan Sadhan Bose how it felt inevitably being the CFL champions after so long.

“Daughters were being born for the last seven years, suddenly a son has been born. How would you like it if that was the case with you? I have the same feeling," giggled Bose, who is fondly known as 'Tutu'.

Bose’s prejudiced comments were followed by laughs in agreement by the people who surrounded him and the presenter himself being evidently awkward chuckled on the chauvinistic reply to his question.

Later on, Bose apologised for his sexist comment. "I was ecstatic after we won the league for the first time in 8 years yesterday. In that excitement, I said a few things which I did not mean to say. I did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments on a happy occasion. My words have hurt my followers/loved ones. I am deeply saddened. I apologise deeply to them," he said in a statement.

In front of a packed home crowd, Mohun Bagan looked in complete control right from the start, determined to wrap up the league title before their final league match against Mohammedan Sporting on September 18.

The Ugandan forward beautifully chest-trapped Arijit Bagui's long ball from the right flank to give Mohun Bagan the early lead.

Mohun Bagan goalkeeper also put up a spirited show under the sticks and thwarted Customs equaliser, while Dipanda Dicka was at his wasteful best.

But Dipanda made up for his wastefulness with a magnificent through ball as Kisekka controlled the ball just outside the six-yard box before slotting it past Suvam Sen's reach at the far-post.
