After Arun Jaitley's rebuttal, Vijay Mallya says had 'no formal meeting' with FM

Sep 12 (AZINS) After Arun Jaitley's rebuttal over Vijay Mallya meeting him before leaving country, Mallya now clarified that he met the Union Finance Minister in the Parliament. Mallya said that he met the FM in the Parliament and told him I was leaving for London and want to settle with the banks.

Mallya further clarified that he had no formal meeting with the Finance Minister.

Mallya's clarification came after Arun Jaitley termed his statement as factually false. In his blogpost on Facebook, Arun Jaitley said that his office never gave any appointment to Vijay Mallya.

"Since 2014, I have never given him any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise."

Jaitley further said that Vijay Mallya's statement is factually false. He further clarified that he had ran into Vijay Mallya in the Parliament where Mallya talked about settlement. To which Jaitley asked him to make an offer to the banks as the minister was aware of Mallya's bluff offers.

"However, since he was a Member of Rajya Sabha and he occasionally attended the House, he misused that privilege on one occasion while I was walking out of the House to go to my room. He paced up to catch up with me and while walking uttered a sentence that ”I am making an offer of settlement”. Having been fully briefed about his earlier “bluff offers”, without allowing him to proceed with the conversation, I curtly told him “there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers", Jaitley wrote.

Vijay Mallya on Wednesday claimed that before leaving India he had met the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to settle matters. Talking to the media outside London's Westminster Magistrates' Court, Mallya said that the banks had filed objections to my settlement letters. The London court is hearing Vijay Mallya's extradition case.

The prosecution lawyer told the Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, "What Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher internally knew was totally different from what it was telling the banks.  Kingfisher Airlines misrepresented facts about performance when applying for loans."
