Why this Madhya Pradesh town celebrated Independence Day on August 10

Aug 14 (AZINS) A town in Madhya Pradesh has celebrated 72nd Independence Day on August 10, five days before the rest of the country. The reason being that the temple follows a three-decade tradition of celebrating the Independence Day as per Hindu panchang (calendar) and not according to the Georgian calendar.

The Pashupatinath temple in MP's Mandsaur celebrate India's Independence Day as per the Hindu calendar and the date this year fell on August 10.

While the country gained independence from the British on August 15, 1947, the date according to the Hindu panchang was Chaturdashi of Shravan month's Krishna Paksha, priest Umesh Joshi said. So every year, the Independence Day is celebrated on Chaturdashi of Shravan month's Krishna paksha with special prayers, he said.

Joshi said special prayers were offered this year in Lord Shiv's temple. The tradition to celebrate the Independence Day on Chaturdashi of Shravan month's Krishna paksha started in 1987.

India will tomorrow celebrate 71 years of Independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 72nd Independence Day tomorrow. Around 10,000 Delhi Police personnel, NSG snipers, 36 women personnel of the Delhi Police Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) unit, kite catchers and over 500 CCTV cameras have been thrown around the Red Fort to ensure security on the occasion.

The Red Fort will see the presence of senior ministers, top bureaucrats, foreign dignitaries and common people during the PM's address tomorrow.

While the inner layer of the security cordon will be formed by a special team of NSG snipers and commandos, anti-aircraft guns have been deployed to thwart any aerial intrusion by objects like drones and projectiles.

Security along the route to be taken by the PM Modi's cavalcade, from his official residence to the Red Fort, will be monitored with the help of hundreds of CCTV cameras, Police said.
