Maharashtra rains: 62 people killed since June 1, over 200 stranded in Vasai rescued today

July 10 (AZINS) The Maharashtra government on Tuesday said that 62 people died since June 1, due to heavy rains across the state, and over 200 were rescued from various parts Vasai on Tuesday.

The issue of heavy rains leading to havoc in Mumbai and adjoining areas was raised by the leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, soon after the state assembly started its business.

Making a statement in the House, Chief Minister  Devendra Fadnavis assured that the state Government has alerted all the systems and has kept NDRF, Coast Guards as well as Navy on alert for rescue and relief operations.

Fadnavis also said that Maharashtra government is keeping a close watch on the situation.

The government informed the House that Water-logging at 66 places was being eased out by deploying 152 pumps.

Giving details about rain-related incidents, PWD minister Chandrakant Patil said that over 300 persons were stranded and over 200 were rescued by NDRF team at Vasai, Rajavli, Tivri, Sativli and salt pane areas.

Patil informed the House that there was water logging at 66 places in Mumbai and suburban areas. The minister also said that 700 persons stranded at long distance trains of Vadodara express and Shatabdi express which got stuck at Nalasopara were rescued by NDRF team and local administration.
