'Maidaan': Ajay Devgn's film based on India's legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim goes on floors
A year back it was announced that Ajay Devgn will play the role of India's former football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in his biopic. The film will be helmed by Amit Sharma, the director of Badhaai Ho and produced by Boney Kapoor. Talking about Syed, he was a coach from the year 1950-1963. He had a vision and a career from football when India's National sport was hockey, and many Indian sportsmen wished to be part of hockey and cricket teams.

Now, the film has got its title and it has gone on floors today. The biopic is titled Maidaan and the tagline is 'The Golden Era of Indian Football 1952-1962'. Ajay tweeted the poster and wrote, "#maidaankicksoff today!". While Boney's children and actors Arjun Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor cheered for their dad. Arjun wrote on Instagram, "So proud of Dad, Amit and Ajay sir for telling this untold story of the golden years of football..." While Janhvi stated, "So proud and excited about this!! Can’t wait to know about the Untold Story of The Golden Years of Indian Football. Best of luck Papa"

Talking about Ajay being a part of Maidaan, Boney earlier told Indian Express, "An actor like Ajay is most apt for essaying this character. We hope that the film inspires millions of youngsters and soon India plays in the World Cup and becomes a potent force in World Football."

He added, "It’s amazing to see football, world’s biggest game, having such a fever in India, and yet our team is not being sent to important tournaments."
