Ranbir plays the role of Sanjay Dutt in the film is being lauded for his exceptional acting, and for the way he effortlessly adopted Sanjay's mannerisms and body language.

The film traces Sanju’s life, from being a budding movie star and his problem of drug addiction to a prison inmate at the Yerawada jail.

In an interview to Deccan Chronicle, Ranbir spoke about the shocking similarity between real and reel Sanju.

Ranbir talked about how he too experimented with drugs.  “I have tried drugs when I was in college and got into bad influence. But I realised that nothing will happen in life if I continue with drugs. When we did that section, I did a lot of research,” he said.

But further the actor disclosed that he has instead picked up another bad habit.

“Every man makes mistakes in his life. I am addicted to nicotine now and it’s worse than drugs. And I have addiction for sweets as well,” he added.

Meanwhile on the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in Brahmastra with Alia Bhatt, Shamshera with Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor and filmmaker Luv Ranjan's untitled next with Ajay Devgn.
